Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are “caps” that fit over the surface of your tooth to provide added structural support for damaged or fragile enamel. They are designed to distribute the pressure of biting and chewing more evenly over a larger surface. This can allow you to enjoy greater comfort and reduce stress on your teeth, allowing you to keep your natural teeth longer. Dental crowns are made of different materials. Along with the most popular metal and porcelain crowns, we can also fabricate and place a ceramic crown. Ceramic crowns are ideal for front teeth because of their very natural look.
During your examination, your dentist will explain the various types of crowns for teeth and the most appropriate choice for your situation. If you need additional appointments to treat infections or to create a smooth surface for your crown, we will inform you during this initial appointment. Once your permanent crown is in place, you can typically return to your regular dental care routine. Avoid chewing and biting down on very hard foods. Dental crowns are sturdy but can become damaged if not cared for. Dental crowns can last about 10 to 15 years. Be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily. Proper dental maintenance will extend your crowns life. Also, visit us for your routine visits.
